With more and more hankr-ers calling Madison home, it's time we check in on some of the items you're looking (and ordering) most. From a recent "Best New Restaurant" winner to a longtime local market, from cheese curds to crawfish, our first list of monthly Madison hankr favorites is no slouch.
10. Baumgartner – O.S.S.
There's no denying that this is one funky sausage. But trust us, this combo just works. The classic combo of aged- Limburger and red onions is brought to a whole other level when paired with this braunschweiger bratwurst. Finish off this 'wurst with a mint. (You'll need it. )
9. Avocado Jack Wrap – Barriques
There's no better way to start your morning off than with this perfect little pocket of sunshine. The best part about this wrap is that it won't leave you begging to go back to bed! It'll energize you and make sure you get your day off to a delicious start!
8. Crawfish Etoufee – Double S BBQ
This is Southern comfort food done right, and we can't thank Shon, Double S BBQ owner, enough for sharing it with us. These heavenly bits of crawfish with each bite have us begging for more! 10/10!
7. Buffalo Cheese Curds – O.S.S.
We didn't think cheese curds could get any better- until we had them with spicy buffalo sauce and smoked blue cheese. Shoutout to O.S.S. for opening our eyes to a whole new world of possibilities!
6. Texas Two-Step Tater – Double S BBQ
Who knew something as simple as a baked potato could make such an impact! Double S BBQ in Madison goes all out piling their ‘tater their award-winning chopped brisket, pork sausage, sour cream, shredded cheese, beans, corn and hot sauce! The hot sauce can come on the side or even more can be added depending on what side of the hot sauce fence you’re on.
5. Supreme Nachos – The Brass Ring
When The Brass Ring says supreme, they mean supreme. Madison's venerable pool hall hosts nachos that are above all others. Tortilla chips topped with shredded pepperjack and cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, red onions, black olives, and sour cream. Like the aforementioned dish, they’ll allow the spice to stay on the side if you’d prefer your nachos sans jalapeño. Don’t forget to dip the chips into their house made salsa before you enjoy!
4. Double Diner Burger – Black Locust
Talk about a classic look. Black Locust does it with their Double Diner Burger. A straight forward dish made with not one, but TWO all-beef patties, grilled onions, pickles, dijonnaise, American cheese and finished with their house cut fries. Yum!
3. Cheese Curds – Jacs Dining and Tap House
Jacs does not skimp on their cheese curds. I mean, just look at ‘em. It’s like they know you’ll need more than the average serving so they serve this size up to begin with! Try these house breaded Wisconsin white cheddar curds with the traditional side of ranch or get their trio of sauces to try something new! They have options like cranberry, sage, and hot aioli to make a Wisconsin standby a flavor adventure!
2. Sushi Roll – Metcalfe’s Market
Metcalfe’s is a fourth-generation, family owned and operated neighborhood market overflowing with good things to eat! They have two locations in Madison with an abundance of locally-sourced food to satisfy your every hankr-ing. Aaaaand they have a sushi bar. Metcalfe’s has sushi rolls available everyday where you’ll find options ranging from California Rolls, Sriracha Party Rolls, Veggie Rolls, Philadelphia Rolls, and that’s just the tip of the sushi iceberg!
1. Asian Bar – Metcalfe’s Market
They have sushi, they have a deli, they have a fish fry, what else could Metcalfe’s possibly offer?? How about an Asian Bar! You hankr-ers have done it again. You feast your eyes on amazing dishes day in and day out that the amazing hankr restaurants deliver and head over to experience them yourself! For September the dish that drew most of your hungry stares is the Asian Bar from Meltcalfe’s. And did you know they have a special on Mondays for this mouth-watering dish? That’s right. On "Stir Fry Mondays" you can get your fill of noodles, rice, stir fried veggies, meats, sauces, egg rolls and more for a special price of $6.99/pound.
